Consultant Histopathologist

This is a substantive Consultant post with a sub-specialty focus in gynaecological histology, alongside the additional responsibility of Lead Histopathologist for Cervical Screening Histology. You will join a well-established department handling approximately 29,000 surgical cases per year, with a robust double-reporting system in place for cancer cases and a fully integrated role within cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert histopathological reporting with a sub-specialty focus in gynaecological histology
• Lead on Cervical Screening Histology across the department, overseeing quality and standards
• Participate in the department's double-reporting system for cancer cases, ensuring diagnostic accuracy and peer review
• Play an active role in cancer MDTs, contributing specialist input to patient management decisions
• Contribute to the department's UKAS-accredited quality standards and ongoing service development
• Work collaboratively across both acute sites as part of a wider Cellular Pathology team

Person Specification

• Full registration with the GMC, and entry on the Specialist Register via CCT, CCST, or CESR
• Demonstrable expertise or strong interest in gynaecological histopathology
• Experience with cervical screening histology, or the ability to step into a lead role in this area
• A collaborative approach to working within a busy, high-volume cellular pathology department
• Commitment to MDT working and cancer service delivery
